Elimination of single-use plastics




       Following the ban  on plastic  bags,  single-use plastic  utensils,
       glasses and straws, among others, will be prohibited starting at
       the end of the month. Effective March 28, single-use products
       that are used to package or consume food will also be banned.

       Single-use plastics affected

       The following items  are  prohibited:  cups, glasses, plates,
       containers, sticks, straws, and utensils for take-out or delivery.
       All polystyrene (#6) and compostable (#7 PLA and PHA) plastic
       items are forbidden. Carrying trays are also prohibited except for
       those used for raw meat and fish. However, some organizations
       are exempted:
          •  Non-profit food-aid organizations, e.g., charities that
            distribute food or meals to vulnerable people;
          •  Establishments that offer only home delivery services.

       Alternatives

       In order  to  facilitate  the  transition, several  practical tools are
       available through the  Guichet unique  pour la  transition
       alimentaire (GUTA). This website offers directory of alternatives
       to prohibited items, a guide to  best practices and  contact
       information for several support organizations. A best practices
