Les communautés
                de ruelles

A new project to be launched in the coming months:
      Outremont’s Communautés de ruelles

The purpose of this Communautés de ruelles (alleyway communities)
project is to forge links and encourage dialogue between the different
communities in Outremont borough, with the aim of fostering harmonious
      coexistence and social unity.
It also seeks to improve understanding and knowledge of the cultural and
religious realities of all the communities. It is an invitation to open
communication and to propose solutions for achieving a better way of
      living together.
      What is an alleyway committee?
Made up of at least five Outremont residents, including members of the
Hasidic communities, the alleyway committee’s common objective will be
to enhance ways of living together.
This committee can meet to initiate a dialogue and forge ties through a
variety of initiatives, such as awareness-raising, socio-cultural activities
      and neighbourhood mediation.
The alleyway committee could establish locations for discussion,
information and sharing evenings, training workshops and citizen activities,
all in collaboration with the borough of Outremont.
Outremont’s Table de concertation de bon voisinage
One of the first steps was the creation of Outremont’s Table de
concertation de bon voisinage (consultation table on neighbourliness). Led
by an intercultural mediator, this panel’s objective is to make
recommendations on issues relating to living together in the borough.
                                                Laurent Desbois, Outremont Mayer

“I am very enthusiastic about this new project, the Communautés
de ruelles, which has been made possible by a federal grant.
Communautés de ruelles is a unique opportunity to rally together
and nurture inter-community relations in our borough.”

Alleyways play an important role in the lives of Outremont families. They
are a place for children and parents to socialize, a space for celebrations
      and to enjoy greenery.
The Communautés de ruelles project is rooted in the desire to open a
genuine dialogue between us in order to encourage the exchange of ideas,
better understanding and mutual support between the various
communities. While our initiatives are designed for our entire borough, the
work of the Communautés de ruelles will focus on our alleyways.
